Day 100 - Out with the Old

Today I partook in my first garage sale - as a seller. I have heard many people say things like "garage sales are so much work" and "I would rather just give my things away than try to have a garage sale" and all I have to say is come on people!! You can make it simple and fun - just like my friends Lindsey, Katie and I did.

Here we are enjoying our relaxing day at our sale

The garage sale was Lindsey's idea and she hosted it at her house which was the perfect location! To get things going, she picked a date, sent out an email to a bunch of our girl friends and told us to bring anything and we were welcome to help if we wanted.

5 of us ended up bringing items to sale and we all dropped them off yesterday - everyone priced their own stuff and 3 of us ended up spending our day today working the sale. Here's a quick list of what we had to sell and some comments:

-Clothes, lots of them (we were surprised how much clothes actually sold)
-DVD's (about 20 and all sold)
-Small appliances - microwave, food steamer, iron and iced tea maker (all sold)
-Puzzles (there were some 3d ones Quinn brought which were one of the first items sold, plus several smaller - kiddie ones that all sold)
-An office chair (this was mine and was the last item of the day - so happy not to of had to drag it back home)
-Lots of miscellaneous stuff . . . an ironing board, a picnic basket and dishes set, stuffed animals, electrical wiring, folding doors with hinges (all these items sold too)

A few days before the sale Lindsey made a posting on Craig's list and the morning of, her husband Casey put signs out. Katie was our banker and made sure we had enough change and I was our organizer - through out the day I kept straitening items and moving stuff around to make our garage sale just right.

We had a steady stream of customers from about 8:30 until 1:30 (next time we will wrap up for the day at 2). Our friend Amy came to visit and brought her adorable daughter Audrey which was a nice surprise.

At the end of the day we made over $350 and I really enjoyed spending the day with these 2 great friends! Also, all of our husbands had a fun afternoon of running around town doing 'manly-stuff' while we were at our sale.

Other Firsts: Lulu's - Once our sale was over we took some of the nicer, unsold clothes to Lulu's to try and get some money for them. They only accepted about 8 items out of 2 baskets full, so we made $16 more there - nothing too great and the lady working who looked through our clothes was not very pleasant, but I had always been curious about these types of stores and today I got to see first hand how it worked.

Avenues Bistro - After resting a bit from our busy day we headed to dinner with our good friends Anne & Andy. We went toAvenues Bistro and LOVED it! Q & I had been there before, a while ago, when my mom was in town, but tonight we experienced their reversed happy hour for the first time and it was AMAZING. Martinis were $5 and the entire tapas menu was also only $5 each. We each ordered a different martini and shared 6 tapas - (they were all so good and interesting and there were several more I wanted to try). The reversed happy hour runs from 8-10:30PM on Friday & Saturday night and I am sure we will be back very soon. Everything was delicious and our entire bill was so reasonable. (the extra $1.50 below was becuase Quinn wanted his on the rocks).

Check this place out!!(and if you want company call us and we will go too!)
